Development Economics (MA) Lecture Notes-2: Development Economics, Debraj Ray

Lecture-3-4 and Lecture 5-6

These classes will be devoted to a discussion on Different Paradigms of Development based on the reading Ray, Debraj (2008), "Development Economics", in The New Palgrave Dictionary of Economics, edited by L. Blume and S. Durlauf. [Click the link to access the article in PDF format.]

The major points on which the discussions will be held are;

(1) The concept of Development: Classification of nations as per GDP and per capita GDP, other issues like education and health contributing to development
(2) The paradigm of Convergence
(3) The paradigm of non convergence

Students are requested to go through the document in detail and participate in the discussions in the class.
